CONTAINER: The Box that Changed the World Exhibition

Did you know – currently there is a great exhibition in our own backyard on the various aspects of shipping containers, and how we use them? The Australian National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour are running “Container: The Box that Changed the World”, their first ever outdoor show which in their own words “Personalises the relationship between the individual and the role of containers in freight”. They want to help bridge the gap between the average Australian and the boxes that bring in 99% of Australia’s trade – like your coffee, clothes, or electronics, by helping us to understand more about containers in general.

They have covered everything from the history of shipping to ocean health by setting up 6 different containers you can walk through in an investigation into: Shipping (The history of containers and shipping), Cargo (The world of trade, customs and transport), Port (Look at the ports around the world and how they operate), Ocean (The challenges shipping poses and sustainable shipping), Build (The great things you can build with containers like homes or pools) and Things (General objects that have come to our shore via a shipping container we may not have known about).

Tickets are free and the exhibition is open from 9.30 till 5 daily – so do yourself a favour and go check this out!
